Double Ten Day in Taiwan (and secretly celebrated in China by many) commemorates October 10, 1911, Wuchang Uprising, leading to the end of the Qing Dynasty and which helped to create the Republic of China. These events are portrayed in the Academy Award-winning film, "The Last Emperor."
Double Ten Day is enthusiastically celebrated in Taiwan and by its diaspora. The island nation would eventually split off from China. Today, China claims Taiwan as its territory, and the Taiwanese claim independence and sovereignty from China.
